Photos - France - St Sylvestre
We
were looking for a site near a French village that has been un-changed
since the second World War. Unfortunately St Sylvestre is the only
close site; nice people, rubbish site.
Anyway,
we were here for one reason only. The
population of Oradour-sur-Glane were massacred on the 10th June 1944;
642 men, women and children were killed by the SS in a few hours. The
village has been left in its condition as a reminder to all of the
horrors
of war.
We felt it was important for the children to see it.

Very small pitch

The children were fascinated

Just left as they were

The entrance to the village green. The doctors car has been left where
it was parked on the 10th June 1944

Then and now

60 years back in time

The village garage

The area where the villagers were rounded up

It was very spooky

Everything was burnt by the Germans

Bullet holes in the church where the women and children were killed

The village car park

After all that history, they needed a run in the fields

While we were at this site, it was fathers day

and the porcelain museum.
Following
Oradour-sur-Glane
we needed to go somewhere more cheerfull....
