Photos - Portugal - Cascais
We
couldn't go through the north of Portugal without a stop at the capital
of Lisbon. Our campsite was at Cascais which is located west of Estoril
in what we were later to find out the Portuguese call the 'posh' area
of Lisbon.
The
town of Lisbon itself is a fascinating place. The shops look like they
have not been changed since the '50s. There are many throwback (original)
neon shop signs and we found ten (yes 10) button shops in a row. These
were
not just any button shops, they contained enough drawers of buttons
to satisfy the most fetish of button fanciers. Then there was the shop
selling seeds, just seeds, nothing but seeds. Or the pet shop that
sold pigeons, not any special pigeons, your everyday common pigeon.
Or the doorknob shop, 20,000+ doorknobs - sold by men in immaculate
suits. All very weird, but very nice.

The hot chestnut man - note the oven built on a moped; complete with a flat
tyre

The original Lisbon Ginjinha shop (cherries in Brandy). I had to try it, 1€ to
get instantly drunk

Jump! (note the current book could not be put down)

Having a read (the next book after the jump)

I thought they were running from the waves....

...until I spotted the shark!

Obligatory visit (for Dad) to the (closed) Estoril (ex) F1 circuit
