Photos - Spain - Almeria
The
drive from Marbella to Almeria took 6 hours, for half of the journey
we were treated(!) to the sight of the plastic greenhouses of the
area. Someone, somewhere is getting a big kickback for allowing these
blots on the landscape to continue. However,
when we arrived at our site in the national park East of Almeria there
were none to be seen. The countryside looked very much like the hills
of Wales, but yellow instead of green, without the sheep, or the Welsh;
but it did have the bad weather.
On
the first night the storm arrived. As we drove home through the national
park after an evening visit to Almeria town, the countryside was lit
like daylight by the lightening - very spectacular. Unfortunately the
rain stayed, persistently, for the next two days and nights.

The site was very quiet
The
site itself, like the area, was very Spanish; a total contrast to the
Marbella area and a welcome change. There were no English bars and
the beaches are open and deserted.
The
local town which is called San Jose (so now we know the way to San
Jose) is just what you would want from a Spanish village. Not commercialised
and a friendly little place. In fact, there was only one ex-pat, David
who run the book exchange.
We
also went for a ride up the coast to see the area I had visited last
year on a property search weekend. However, we never got to the final
complex
as the road had a river running down it and was impassable, very prudent
not to buy there then. All this in the driest area in Europe, typical.
All
this seclusion is nice for a break, but this was just a bit too quiet
and too isolated. Time to move on.

Luckily we did not pick the pitch opposite
