On a cold day in December 2005 we set sail from Portsmouth to Bilbao (Spain) after months of preparation and worry. If only I had bought a white transit van, we could then have qualified as a minority and funded the trip with a council grant. However, they probably would have seen through the ploy as I have no idea how to resurface a driveway.
Anyway, all of our possessions were crammed into our car and caravan and we were off.
The children considered the boat trip to be a holiday in itself. Fortunately, the Bay of Biscay was very kind to us and the journey by sea was good fun.
